Citrine is a gemstone of yellow quartz. Citrine Chardonnay is made with an eye towards a balance of golden California sun and a gentle kiss of minerality.
Vineyards: Blend of four different vineyards with an average age of almost 40 years. The base of the blend (50%) is a block of 42 year old, own-rooted vines at Rorick Heritage Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. The blend also includes fruit from Haynes, Heron Lake & Brosseau vineyards.
Vinification: The Chardonnay grapes were gently whole cluster pressed and lightly settled. Barrel fermented with native yeast and full native ML fermentation it was aged on its own lees for 12 months in barrel, blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Vibrant and intense, but balanced – as if the volume is turned up on all its parts equally. Briny citrus, orchard fruit, lacy white flowers and minerality are all on display. Dry extract gives the wine concentration and mid palate, while acidity holds the tension. It punches criminally above its weight, and should age as well as any vintage we have bottled.
