Neta Espadn Con Frutas Agave Spirits

Discover a vibrant expression of Oaxacan tradition with Neta Espadn Con Frutas. While pechuga-style spirits are a recent innovation in Logoche, the infusion of agave distillate with locally sourced fruit is a time-honored practice in Miahuatln and its neighboring communities, typically reserved for special occasions and crafted in minuscule quantities.

This exceptional batch comes from the creative mind of Simitrio Aquino, a distiller known for his small-batch artistry. During a period focused on Espadn, Simitrio set aside 120 liters of single-distilled low wines from mature (capn) Espadn in the esteemed Etla region. To this, he artfully added approximately six kilos of fresh fruit a medley of banana, guava, apple, pineapple, grape, mango, and nance sourced from the vibrant market nearby Miahuatln.

Distilled with meticulous care under low heat in July 2024, this unique combination yielded a mere 45 liters at a robust 48.6% ABV, achieving the coveted “cordn cerrado” (tight pearl).

Tasting Notes:

• On the nose, Neta Espadn Con Frutas presents a captivating bouquet. The earthy and subtly smoky character of the high-quality Etla Espadn provides a grounding base, beautifully interwoven with bright and tropical fruit aromas. Expect initial notes of ripe banana and sweet guava, followed by hints of crisp apple and juicy pineapple. A touch of grape adds a subtle vinous complexity, while the exotic sweetness of mango and the unique tartness of nance round out the aromatic profile.
• The palate is lively and well-balanced. The signature vegetal notes of Espadn are present but softened and enhanced by the vibrant fruit infusion. The banana and guava reappear on the palate, joined by a refreshing burst of pineapple and a subtle sweetness from the mango. The apple provides a crisp acidity, cutting through the richness, while the grape contributes a delicate layer of complexity.
• The intriguing nance offers a slightly tart and almost savory counterpoint, adding depth and intrigue to the finish. The high ABV provides a pleasant warmth that lingers, leaving a final impression of fruity complexity and the distinct terroir of Oaxacan agave.
